Starknet considers transitioning to an L1 network to address quantum threats, targeting 2027.

PANews October 9 news: StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson published a post discussing the necessity of upgrading Starknet to L1 in order to address post-quantum era threats. He pointed out that the threat of quantum computing may be closer than expected, and that the rapid development of AI could break existing security assumptions. Blockchain needs to enter "shelter mode" and quickly achieve future-proofing. Key elements include: adopting appropriate cryptographic technologies, having cryptographic flexibility, and becoming an independent L1. As an L2, Starknet relies on Ethereum for security. Ethereum aims to achieve full quantum resistance by the end of 2029, while Bitcoin has made no commitment, whereas Starknet, if upgraded to L1, could achieve this first in 2027. This move would allow it to independently control its security migration and become a quantum-resistant network capable of public or private transactions and holding assets.
